About HEIC to JPG Converter

Why Convert HEIC to JPG?

Apple introduced HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) in iOS 11 to reduce photo storage on iPhones by up to 50% compared to JPG while maintaining similar visual quality. The trade-off is compatibility: HEIC is an Apple-specific format and cannot be opened natively on Windows 10/11 without a paid Microsoft codec, on most Android devices, or in many web apps and services.

Converting to JPG solves this instantly. JPG is the most universally supported image format — every operating system, browser, app, and website can open it without any extra software.

Key Features

  • Batch conversion — add dozens of files at once and convert them all in one click
  • No upload, fully private — conversion runs in your browser; your photos never leave your device
  • ZIP download — once 2 or more files are converted, download them all as a single ZIP archive
  • Quality control — adjust the JPG quality slider (60–100) to balance file size against image quality
  • No software to install — works in any modern browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Android
  • No sign-up, no limits — completely free with no registration required

How to Convert HEIC to JPG

  1. Click the upload area or drag and drop your .heic or .heif photos.
  2. Adjust the JPG Quality slider if needed (90 is the default and works well for most photos).
  3. Click Convert All to start. Each file’s status updates in real time.
  4. Once a file shows Done ✓, click its Save link to download the JPG individually.
  5. After 2 or more files convert, a Download All as ZIP button appears in the panel.

Supported File Types

This tool accepts .heic and .heif files — the two common extensions for Apple’s High Efficiency Image Format. Both are handled identically. The output is always a standard JPEG (.jpg) file compatible with all platforms.

Files are validated by both extension and MIME type. If a file cannot be decoded, the row will show a Failed status and the remaining files will continue processing.

Common Questions

Why can’t Windows open HEIC files?
Windows 10 and 11 require a paid HEVC Video Extensions codec from the Microsoft Store to natively open HEIC files. This codec is not installed by default. The easiest free solution is to convert your photos to JPG using a browser-based tool like this one — no software installation needed.

Does this keep photo quality?
At quality 90 (the default), the output JPG is visually indistinguishable from the original HEIC for most photos. Quality 85 is a good balance for sharing; quality 95–100 is for archival. Note that JPG does not support HDR or transparency, so those properties will be lost if present in the original.

Is my photo private?
Yes, completely. This tool uses the open-source heic2any library which runs entirely inside your browser using JavaScript. No file data, metadata, or pixel content is ever sent to any server. The only network request is loading the conversion library itself from a public CDN on first use.

Why does it say “Loading converter” the first time?
The HEIC decoding library is loaded on demand from a CDN when you click Convert for the first time. This keeps the page fast on every visit. After the first load, your browser caches the library so it is instant on return visits.

Can I convert HEIF files too?
Yes. HEIF (.heif) and HEIC (.heic) are essentially the same format. HEIF is the general standard and HEIC is Apple’s specific extension. This tool handles both file extensions identically.

What’s the difference between HEIC and JPG file sizes?
HEIC files from an iPhone are typically 30–50% smaller than an equivalent-quality JPG. When you convert to JPG at quality 90, the resulting file will be somewhat larger than the original HEIC. If file size matters, lower the quality slider to 80–85 for a good balance.
