• Extracts stored image objects — not page screenshots.

• Password entry is handled locally — your password is never sent anywhere.

• Logos and icons under 100×100 px are hidden by default — uncheck the filter to see them.

• Images reused on multiple pages are deduplicated and labelled with all page numbers.

• Scanned PDFs store each page as one large image, not individual photos.

About PDF Image Extraction

How Image Extraction Works

When a PDF is created, photos and graphics are embedded as discrete image objects — separate from the page layout. This tool uses PDF.js to read those objects directly, delivering each image at the resolution the PDF author stored it.

This is fundamentally different from taking a page screenshot. A screenshot captures the rendered view at screen resolution. Extraction retrieves the actual file stored in the PDF, which may be thousands of pixels wide even on a small-looking page.

Key Features

  • Original resolution — images are extracted at the exact dimensions stored in the PDF, not scaled down.
  • Duplicate detection — images reused across multiple pages are extracted once and labelled with every page number they appear on.
  • Small-image filter — logos, tracking pixels, and decorative icons under 100×100 px are hidden by default.
  • ZIP download — save all visible images in a single ZIP file with one click.
  • Password-protected PDFs — unlocking happens entirely in your browser; the password is never transmitted.
  • No upload, no server — everything runs client-side using PDF.js and the Web Canvas API.

How to Extract Images from a PDF

  1. Drop a PDF onto the upload zone or click Choose PDF to browse.
  2. If the PDF is password-protected, enter the password when prompted.
  3. The progress bar shows page-by-page scan progress. Images appear as they are found.
  4. Each image card shows dimensions, format, and the page it came from.
  5. Click ⬇ Download on any card to save that image individually.
  6. When 2 or more images are found, click Download All as ZIP to save everything at once.
  7. Use the size filter to show or hide small icons and logos.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the extracted images be the same quality as the originals?

Yes — extraction retrieves the exact image data stored in the PDF at its original resolution. If the PDF author compressed or downsampled images before embedding them, that quality loss cannot be recovered.

Does this work with scanned PDFs?

Partially. A scanned PDF stores each page as a single large raster image. You will extract those full-page scan images. The tool cannot separate individual photos or objects that were physically on the page before scanning.

Can it open password-protected PDFs?

Yes. When a password is required, a prompt appears. The password is used only in your browser to decrypt the PDF locally — it is never sent to any server or stored anywhere.

Why are vector graphics not included?

Vector shapes — lines, charts, diagrams drawn with PDF path operators — are not stored as image objects. They are rendering instructions drawn on the fly. Only raster image objects (JPEG, PNG, TIFF, etc.) can be extracted. To capture a vector diagram, use a PDF-to-image converter to render the page at high resolution.
